Free check for women over 40

Broome Advertiser

Broome women still have time to take advantage of a free breast screening mammogram, courtesy of BreastScreen WA.

The free service is provided for women aged 40 and over to visit the Breast Screen WA van and receive a free appointment.

Routine screening mammograms every two years for women aged 50 to 69 can significantly increase the chance of a woman surviving breast cancer and reduce the amount of treatment required.

More than 75 per cent of breast cancer occurs in women over the age of 50.

BreastScreen WA’s medical director Dr Elizabeth Wylie said screening mammography was the most effective method for early detection.

The Breast Screen WA Van will be located at Broome Hospital on Robinson Street and will remain in Broome until April 29 before making its way to other Kimberley towns.

For more information or to make an appointment call 13 20 50.
