Funny red noses help to support serious charity

Broome Advertiser

Horizon Power employees got their clown noses on for this year’s Red Nose Day on Friday to help raise funds for SIDS and Kids.

The local Broome office raised several hundred dollars for the annual fundraiser by selling, purchasing and wearing red noses throughout the day.

Horizon Power’s community and customer relations manger Jodie Lynch said the company sponsored and promoted charities and events which shared their focus of supporting regional communities.

“We thought this would be an easy and fun way to show our support of Red Nose Day and assist SIDS and Kids in providing vital services and programs in the local community,” Ms Lynch said.

There are around 90 SIDS, or sudden infant death syndrome, deaths in Australia each year.

Proceeds from Red Nose Day assist SIDS and Kids in providing free ongoing bereavement support and crisis outreach to families and the community following the sudden and unexpected death of a baby, infant or child.

It also supports education to parents, carers and health professionals on how to reduce the risk of SIDS and fatal sleeping accidents through SIDS and Kids safe sleeping program.

Research into the causes and prevention of sudden and unexpected death of babies during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood is also funded.
