Generous community have a ball
“The social event of 2012”, the Kyle Andrews Foundation Pearling Masters Ball, raised more than $20,000 for charity on
Friday night.
KAF president Ian Poulter said the majestic “tribute to the classics”- themed ball at Pearl Luggers in Chinatown had been highly successful, drawing generous philanthropists out of the woodwork to dance to classics from the 1950s to 2000.
He said a strand of pearls donated by Willie Creek Pearls and worth $10,000 was bought by one generous donor, who wished to remain unnamed, and then given back to the foundation for auction.
The second buyer followed suit.
“We had around 180 people attend,” Mr Poulter said.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to all of them and especially to Willie Creek Pearls.
“It was highly successful – a great location and a good crowd.”
The Kyle Andrews Foundation Charity house on Magabala Road in Broome North, which was built by H&M Tracy and went to auction on Saturday morning, is still open to private negotiation.
“Unfortunately we had no firm bidders at Saturday’s auction,” Mr Poulter said.
“We had a good crowd down there and there are some interested parties.”
