Broome boxing enthusiasts were given the opportunity to meet one of Australia's greatest fighters of the modern era last Friday, when Danny Green held a rare coaching session at the local Police and Community Youth Centre.

The Green Machine, a former WBC Super Middleweight Champion who put Broome fighters through their paces, was convinced to come to the Kimberley town by local ATI Martial Arts instructor Tristan Johnson.

Green said he enjoyed travelling to meet fans and budding fighters.

"I have had a lot of great support from the regional areas, so I love coming to them," he said.

"It gives me a chance to see people that maybe don't get the chance to go to my fights or see me in person at my fights. When you see the kids' faces, it is great."

Green said he could not transform a fighter into a world champion in a couple of hours, but would offer guidance that would help students progress in the ring.

"I try to show them basics and a few good things to improve them," he said.

Johnson said having someone of Green's calibre in Broome was a boost to local fighters.
