Roebuck Primary School students went hair-crazy for a good cause recently when they took part in a fundraiser to support animal welfare group Saving Animals From Euthanasia Broome.

After reading about SAFE's plight in the Broome Advertiser, the school's student council organised a Wacky Hair Day on September 19.

Students paid a gold coin for the privilege of coming to school with a crazy hair style.

Deputy principal Louise Bachman said the invitation proved successful, as youngsters arrived with very creative, colourful styles, which were showcased in a special parade.

"The student council was extremely proud to announce that they raised $797 for SAFE Broome and hope that their efforts will help the charity to continue their great work in our very special community," she said.

Meanwhile, staff at the Roebuck Village Store also showed community spirit and generosity by holding a fun day to raise money for SAFE Broome and other local charities.

The fun day on September 14 was themed Talk Like a Pirate Day.

About 150 people attended, with some guests embracing the theme and dressing up as pirates.

Youngsters enjoyed activities including a bouncy castle, while staff served up a sausage sizzle.

Donations filled charity tins and were distributed to SAFE Broome and other worthy causes.

SAFE Broome president Wendy Roberts congratulated organisers, volunteers and participants for their tremendous efforts.

"These funds allow us to continue to sustain our efforts to save as many healthy, adoptable companion animals from unnecessary euthanasia, whether through SAFE branches or other animal welfare agencies," she said.
