Hotel musters emerging musicians

Some are calling it Battle of the Bands Broome, others think it’s the Clash at Roebuck Hotel but make no mistake, this new event looks to raise the volume of local music.

The epic battle — Kimberley Music Muster 2016 — organised by the Roebuck Hotel consists of 16 Kimberley bands playing across nine weeks, including four heats, two semifinals and a grand final.

It is set to define the Broome music scene for young emerging artists across all genres, with no age restriction.

Up for grabs is a first prize of a four-track Extended Play produced by Casey Rice, use of Grassroots Records studio donated by Tonchi, a music video of the winner’s best song and four paid gigs at the Roebuck Hotel in 2016.

The runner-up doesn’t walk home empty handed either with two paid gigs at the Roebuck Hotel in 2016 on offer.

Sassy Sasquatches band leader Jake Stevens said he’s already signed up as a solo act — “Paralytic States” — and as a band to test his acoustic guitar skills in a festival environment.

“It’s a good opportunity for Broome musicians to get their name out there and get the word out about the original music coming out of Broome, we’ve got raps and a lot of talent in town,” he said.

“There’s a whole range, whatever music you play you can do it there. This will be my first festival and for the most part I want people to enjoy my music, get up and started dancing.”

There’s still time to register your outfit before the event launch party where all bands will perform and rounds will be drawn next week on Sunday, June 5.

Four bands will battle during round 1 on June 12, the first semifinal is expected to take place on July 10 and the grand final will kick off on July 24 with a concluding music festival for all bands on July 30.
