Internal fixtures to begin
Broome is set to host its first internal rugby fixture next weekend, with all interested players invited to come down and play.
The local rugby scene has been building up over recent years, with the calendar usually consisting of biannual clashes against a Kununurra representative team.
Because of Broome's location, finding enough fixtures to keep players interested has been an issue, but the demand for more games has led to the start of a local competition.
The first game of the campaign will be hosted on Sunday, April 26, at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre at 3pm.
The hope is a game will be played every fortnight, building up to competitive fixtures against Kununurra and a local sevens competition later in the year.
Broome Luggers president Tui Savu said the increased number of fixtures would cater for players of all levels of experience and ability.
He also said whether interested players had experience in rugby league or union did not matter, while spectators and non-playing parties were also welcome.
