Jodi’s Team clean up at indoor grand final

Broome Advertiser

Featuring the highest calibre of volleyball competition seen in Broome for many years, the first season of indoor mixed volleyball at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre for 2012 has concluded.

The top four sides played in the semifinals last week, followed by the grand final.

In the first match, Jodi’s Team comfortably accounted for Smack Down in straight sets, 25-15, 25-9 and 25-15.

The second semifinal was a far more competitive affair, with Mixed Up facing WhatNow.

WhatNow came out strongly to take the first set 25-16, before Mixed Up hit back in the second to level the tie, taking the set 25-20.

In a tight and competitive deciding third set, WhatNow advanced to the grand final after taking it 25- 20.

The grand final featured some outstanding volleyball.

Jodi’s Team came out strongly and led from the start, with welldrilled offensive plays giving them the upper hand over WhatNow, and taking the first set 25-17.

WhatNow persevered and went point-for-point for much of the second set, but in the end were unable to match the powerful hitting and better tactical play of Jodi’s Team who took the second set 25-20 to secure the title.

The consolation third set also went the way of Jodi’s Team, 25-19, to complete a grand final clean sweep.

Details of the next season of indoor mixed volleyball are yet to be finalised, but anyone interested in playing or entering a team should contact BRAC program development officer, Sarah Boettcher, on 9191 8722 or sarah.boettcher@broome.wa.gov.au.
