Kaine is keen and able to trek for a cure

NICOLE NORELLIBroome Advertiser

Kaine Frunks is about to scale the walls – or more accurately, Mt Everest, to raise money for cancer research.

He will be at Broome Boulevard shopping centre this Saturday and has invited the community to meet him to find out more about his cause.

He is raising awareness for the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation as well as raising much-needed funds for his Trek for a Cure to Mt Everest in February next year.

Today one in two families is affected by cancer and it has overtaken heart disease as the greatest killer in Australia.

Every five minutes of each day, a new person will be shaken by a cancer diagnosis.

“Each year, 1.4 million people are told they have cancer, so if we can get $50 per person, it pays for one hour of research into a cure,” Mr Frunks said.

His eight-hour display this weekend will have a unique twist — he will be walking on a treadmill to demonstrate the fitness he will need to trek to base camp at Mt Everest, where up to eight hours a day is spent trekking at an altitude of more than 5486m.

“Climbing Mt Everest has always been on the wish list and so it’s turned out to be a win/win,” he said.

“I came across a great organised charity called Trek Inspired Adventures and thought it was a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause and achieve one of my greatest dreams at the same time.”

Mr Frunks will be seeking your support and assistance to raise the $15,000 needed to help fund medical research in the quest for a cure for cancer.

Cure Cancer Australia has been operating since 1967 and has channelled more than $15 million in grants into cancer research.

It is supporting Mr Frunks in his endeavours as he shares a simple but passionate vision: “A world without cancer, nothing less.”
