The organisers of this year’s Shinju Matsuri festival have announced that the location for tomorrow’s floating lantern event has changed from Cable Beach to Gantheuame Point.

With potential for strong winds, the location change will ensure that the hoard of personalised lanterns make it back to the beach safely.

The lanterns are set to be launched from a boat, supplied by Absolute Ocean Charters, creating a trail of floating beacons heading back to the beach.

The local community are invited to participate, with the opportunity to build a lantern at the Shinju Matsuri info-booth at Sun Pictures still available until Friday morning.

Broome Scouts and Broome Sailing Club are set to play a major role in the event also, with over 500 lanterns set to launched from the Contessa.

The event starts at 5pm at Gantheaume Point; attendees are advised to park at Broome Turf Club and walk down to the beach.
