Lovely locks to be lost for leukaemia

NICOLA KALMARBroome Advertiser

With his ocean-blue eyes, angelic smile and cascading sun-bleached locks, it seems a shame young Sean Williams is signing up as a participant for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.

The plucky nine-year-old said he was looking forward to shaving off his curls to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Once again, the organisation is calling on Australians to “be brave and shave” during this year’s event to help raise $15 million for blood cancer research and support.

Cable Beach primary student Sean said he had previously heard about the event after a fellow pupil shaved off his long hair, and decided it would be a good idea.

Mother Kirsten Williams said Sean wanted to help raise money for the foundation after a family member was diagnosed with leukaemia. She said the event was a great way for Sean to show support.

“I think it’s great,” she said.

“I planted the seed but Sean has followed through and got behind it.”

Sean said he was coming up with ideas to fundraise with support from the community, including a sausage sizzle at

Bunnings, promotions at the Boulevard Shopping Centre and organising a raffle.

Sean said he had not yet decided where he would shave off his hair, but was tempted to shave half at school and the other half at Matso’s.

This year’s event will be held from March 15-17.
