RUGBY: Rugby is back on the agenda in Broome for 2013 after a break over the festive season.

The Broome Luggers Rugby Club returned to training recently, with retained and new players making an appearance to build their fitness. The first competitive fixtures of 2013 will be at the Margaret River Sevens tournament on Saturday, February 23.

The Broome team fly to the southern coastal township to battle it out with 15 other teams from all over WA for a shot at the title, which carries considerable prize money.

“This is a great opportunity for us as a club to showcase our talents and to lift the profile of Broome Luggers,” coach Sam Newton said.

“We will look to bring at least 12-13 of those from training to the competition, but we must have 100 per cent commitment from the players for it to be a success.”

New club president Tui Savu was quick to invite any interested parties to get involved with the club, either in a playing or non playing capacity. The club is also eager to invite local businesses to come forward, with sponsorship for the Margaret River trip and in the long-term still available.

Training takes place at BRAC every Tuesday at 6pm and Thursday at 5.30pm. Interested players should contact Sam Newton on 0457 357 873, while supporters and potential sponsors should contact Peter Green on 0477 057 210.
