They may look cute and loveable, but four-legged crime fighters Mako and Raul are a force to be reckoned with.

The police dogs arrived in Broome last Thursday with handlers Senior Constable Steve Clark and Senior Constable David Biondo to spend a week assisting local officers with general duties.

Four-year-old Dutch Shepherd Mako joined the force in June 2014, while two-year-old German Shepherd Raul started in May last year.

Despite their relatively short careers, both dogs have already made their mark in helping police apprehend criminals.

In June, Raul attended the scene of an attempted burglary in Bassendean.

The offender ran from police but was soon located after the clever canine tracked him down.

Broome police Senior Sergeant Brendon Barwick said the dogs were valuable police resources.
