Mango madness is in the air

AMY WILLIAMSBroome Advertiser

The air has a haze, the temperature has turned balmy and soon Broome locals will start blaming their moods on “mango madness”. These are all signs that Broome’s annual Mango Festival is on its way – this year with an exciting new event.

Hosted by the Broome Lion’s Club, the festival features a delicious blend of events, from the Great Chefs of Broome and Great Bartenders of Broome competitions, the mango tasting day, the mango jams, cakes and chutneys show and the mango quiz night.

But this year, Lions will join with Broome Rotary and the Broome Shire to host a major charity fundraiser on November 24, a national campaign to stop violence against women.

Themed “Supporting a Safer Community”, the White Ribbon Day Gala and Charity Auction will raise money for organisations which work to reduce violence in the community.

Held in Broome’s new, yet-to-benamed multipurpose arts and community venue, it will incorporate the Mango Festival’s Apprentice Chefs’ Cook-Off and an auction of five postie bikes painted by Kimberley Training Institute art students.
