More cash for publishing house

Broome Advertiser

A local publishing house can now double their financial contributions from the public through an Australian Government scheme.

Magabala Books has signed up to the Plus1 initiative, which has pledged to match donations towards fundraising campaigns for not-for-profit organisations.

The Broome publishing house hopes to raise significant funds in 2016 for three major philanthropic projects.

Their scholarship scheme supports writers and artists through creative development, while the literary fund aims to print non-mainstream stories of cultural and educational value.

Small Seeds Big Reads hopes to fund the allocation of books to youngsters to improve literacy and build a connection with indigenous culture.

Magabala philanthropic manager Sharon Davies said the organisation had a fantastic group of regular donors but needed to spread their reach.
