The first part of a development expected to double the amount of affordable housing in Broome was opened to the public last week.

Waranyjarri is the first estate to be released in Broome North and represents about one-eighth of the development’s total size.

For the first time, buyers can now access their lots in Waranyjarri residential estate, and prospective buyers can get a firsthand look at lots still available.

The estate is planned to include a school, shopping centre, service station, as well as park area and beautiful landscaping, with some 16,000 native plants.

Landcorp chairman Monty House said more than 70 lots within Waranyjarri were already sold or under offer, but there was plenty for those interested in either single residential lots from 451sqm to 814sqm, starting from $155,000, and house-andland packages, starting from $419,000.

“This is a very important development for Broome,” he said.

“Broome North will be home to many Broome residents and help guarantee future land supply, giving us the opportunity to expand the town as the population grows.”

Broome Shire president Graeme Campbell said it was also a good time for people to build. “Now is the time to build in Broome,” he said.

“Builders have been going through a really quiet time and have actually been looking for work, which is quite a different situation to two or three years ago.”

Gallen Pilkington of Ertech, which has been working on several facets of preparing the sites, said he was excited there would be affordable land in Broome.
