Olympians make splash at clinics

Young swimmers were treated to Olympic-quality lessons taught by two national athletes last week.

Water polo Olympic gold medallist Yvette Higgins and Paralympic backstroke gold medallist Katrina Porter conducted clinics throughout the Kimberley from Thursday to Saturday.

The visit was part of the 2015 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series Community Program and included free clinics at Derby on Thursday, Bidyadanga on Friday and Broome on Saturday.

About 35 enthusiastic swimmers attended the clinic at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, which included a swimming session and a water polo match led by coaches Fiona Njirich and Petra Kovacs.

Participants had the chance to have their memorabilia signed and to ask the athletes questions.
