Olympic spirit fuels schools’ efforts
Pushing themselves to their limits, competitors from Roebuck Primary School, Broome Primary School, Cable Beach
Primary School and St Mary’s College took part in a series of gruelling events as part of Broome’s annual inter-school cross-country.
Hard work and determination was evident on the faces of the young athletes, almost on par to the Olympic spirit, was certainly present in all of the plucky participants.
With junior, intermediate and senior boys’ and girls’ races completed in an exhausting morning of endurance, Roebuck Primary School topped the scoring cards after an excellent showing, claiming victory in four of the six races.
The eldest competitors started the morning’s events, with Lachlan Gregor and Maggie Harris taking out the senior races.
Roebuck Primary’s triumphs were completed in the junior events, with Lachlan Tracy and Lucy Harris following in the footsteps of older classmates.
The intermediate races were more evenly-contested, with victories for two of the other schools.
Elijah Neesham of St Mary’s College won the boys event, whilst Shanae Davison of Cable Beach Primary School prevailed in the girls’ equivalent.
The victorious students celebrated with their medals in the aftermath of the races; it is clear that Broome athletics has a bright future.
