Pallet recycling set for trial off Buckleys Road
A pallet recycling and landfill diversion operation will be trialled in Broome.
Broome Tree and Palm Service owner Peter Selten has been given a 12-month licence to experiment with the initiative on land off Buckleys Road.
The Shire of Broome granted approval based on a string of conditions, including termination of licence clause if there were breaches of conditions.
The project involves recycling of wooden pallets into a variety of products, such as landscape mulch and composts, animal bedding, building materials and packaging.
Some would also be re-used as pallets.
In a report to councillors, Shire economic development manager Daniel High said the trial aligned with strategic goals of the council, including taking up valuable space at the waste management facility and would provide valuable knowledge and data relating to pallet recycling and landfill diversion.
The vision from the company involved is to develop a sustainable business from the trial.
