The Town Beach water park and playground have been closed after a spate of vandalism over the weekend.

Part of the soft fall surface matting was ripped-up and two shade sails were damaged – possibly by people climbing onto them – and a rubbish bin was set on fire and destroyed.

The Shire of Broome said the damage bill would be about $3000.

The park includes playground and water education equipment with seating and is a popular destination for parents to take their children.

Shire President Ron Johnston said vandalism and graffiti of public assets on private property was extremely disappointing, especially when it was a popular children’s water park.

“There is a cost to the community to repair and replace the damaged soft fall surface, shade sails and rubbish bin, and also the inconvenience to the community and especially the kids with the water park closed while it’s undergoing repairs,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broome Police on 91940200.
