Police station doors damaged

NICOLA KALMARBroome Advertiser

A woman from the remote Kimberley community of Balgo has been charged with causing criminal damage after allegedly causing thousands of dollars in damage to Broome Police Station last week by hurling rocks through the glass entrance.

The 26-year-old is accused of causing significant damage to the inner and outer sliding glass doors after repeatedly throwing small rocks at them about 2am on Tuesday.

Sergeant Simon Rimmer said he did not believe the act was malicious, rather “borne from frustration” after she had been refused service at the Shell petrol station. It is alleged she had been drinking.

Sgt Rimmer said it would take several weeks for the glass to arrive from Perth to fix the missing panels, and safety measures would be put in place in the interim.

The woman has been bailed to appear in Broome Magistrates Court on September 9.
