The playground at Town Beach in Broome is being upgraded and will be closed from Monday until June 24 while work is carried out.

The neighbouring Town Beach Water Park will remain open while the work is undertaken.

Shire of Broome director infrastructure Michael Dale said the playground was well used and the upgrades would make it safer and more attractive.

“The work will include replacing worn soft-fall surfaces, removing old play equipment and installing a new combination unit with swing set and rocker,” he said.

“To improve safety for children using the area, permanent fencing will be erected around the entire playground and water park precinct.

“Two big neem trees will also be removed and a new shade sail, seating and garden beds will be installed in their place.

“Neem trees are a recognised weed in Broome, and parts of the tree including the berries are toxic if eaten and can cause allergic reactions.”

The Town Beach Water Park is closed for maintenance each Tuesday.
