A Service of peace and reconciliation will be held this afternoon to help heal rifts in the Broome community.

Bishop Christopher Saunders will lead a special prayer service for peace and harmony in the town amid recent tensions felt over the proposed gas hub at James Price Point.

Bishop Saunders encouraged everyone to attend the service.

“Never before in the history of Broome has there been such anger and abuse hurled about by people with differing opinions,” he said.

“It is tearing our town apart and causing divisions that may never heal. With the power of prayer we hope we can reverse the harm done by uncaring and unreasoning vested interests.”

Bishop Saunders invited everyone to join the service to pray for “our home, our families and our future together.”

The service will be held at 5.30pm today at Nulungu Chapel behind St Mary’s College.
