A nurse, primary school teacher and two receptionists are putting the chic back into charity, battling it out for the coveted Derby Boab Quest title.

The fundraising competition which runs alongside the Derby Boab Festival, challenges ladies — Asha Housh of Derby District High School, Rachel Cane of Derby Hospital, Teena-Marie Taylor of Radio 6DBY and Bel Frost of West Kimberley Regional Prison —to go head-to-head in a mission for their chosen host charity or not-for-profit organisation.

Money is raised through staging functions and community activities and will go towards new equipment and facilities for their organisation.

Primary school teacher Ms Hough said she was inspired by the children in her life and was fundraising alongside the high school’s social club for a number of projects aimed at enriching the education experiences from kindergarten to Year 12 at Derby District High School.

“Monies raised will be going towards our projects which include upgrades to our assembly area and aiding the funding of camps. Fundraisers that I will be running in the community include hosting a quiz night at the school and running tuck shop at the local teenage disco,” she said.

Ms Cane, a nurse originally from the UK, has lived in Derby on and off for more than a year and will be raising funds to buy a portable ultrasound machine for the emergency department.

“Through all my travels and adventures I have never felt so welcomed and instantly accepted as part of the community as I have in Derby Town. It’s my pleasure to be the Derby Hospital Boab Quest entrant and give a little bit back to the community that has welcomed me so heartily.”

Quest entrants will be officially introduced at the Boab Quest presentation ball on May 4 at Derby Civic Centre. For more information visit www.derbyboabfestival.org.au.
