Red Dirt Roller Dollz gain momentum
After an eventful and action-packed first 12 months in existence, Broome's Red Dirt Roller Dollz are set to keep the momentum rolling in 2014.
The club have a new and improved training schedule, more imaginative and exciting fundraising ideas and a more structured campaign for newcomers in the pipeline.
Roller derby is not just for the femme fatales, with any men who are keen to give it a try strongly encouraged to get involved.
If sufficient interest is shown there is the opportunity for either a men's division or co-ed league.
The children will also be dusting off the skates this year, with the mini-rollers program set to be introduced at local primary schools in the near future.
The hope is that there will be enough excited young faces to lead to a junior roller derby league from the start of Term 2.
A number of competitors travelled to Perth for the Boom State Clash tournament last September.
One of the club's major aims this year is to send a full bout-ready team to the State capital for the tournament in 2014.
A public bout against another league is also a real aim.
RDRD president Mandy von Krimpen said the sport was set to continue its rapid growth in Broome.
"My message to potential new members is that roller derby is so much fun and a great way to stay healthy," she said.
A registration day will be held at the Boulevard Shopping Centre on Saturday, January 25, for anyone interested in becoming involved.
