Remote school continues to grow with expansions
La Grange Remote Community School has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the 1980s, and has most recently unveiled major expansions.
Located in the heart of the Bidyadanga community, the school has cemented its reputation as one of the largest remote schools in WA, expanding to include four new primary classrooms and two new secondary classrooms within its grounds.
During the school’s short history, its number of students has steadily grown to now cater for 250 pupils in grades from prekindy to Year 12.
Prior to 1982, a school was run by La Grange Mission before the Catholic Bishop of Broome transferred the management of the school to the State Government.
Acting principal Bronwyn Wright said the school had flourished ever since.
“We offer greater flexibility and we now have the space to accommodate growth and cater for students across the broader curriculum,” she said.
In addition, Ms Wright said there was more support to engage and retain secondary students with the delivery of the West Australian Certificate of Education.
