School training course to have April launch

Broome Advertiser

SAILING: Broome Sailing Club is set to launch its first in-school training program.

The club will start the program on the first day of the dry season sailing calendar on Sunday, April 21 at St Mary’s College.

The course runs for four weeks every Sunday, dependent on the Broome tide and optimum beach access.

BSC sail trainer John Dayman said he had been working with SMC sport co-ordinator Mark Dellar to create the inaugural

level one sail training program for the college.

Mr Dayman said BSC’s ultimate aim would be to include sailing in the Kimberley Cup and engage all of the schools.

“Resident Broome schools could compete in the level one and other Kimberley Cup participants could send their students down at Easter or a term break to do the Level I sail training,” he said.

“The Kimberley Cup event could then entail running all level one through level two and culminate in a round robin competition between the schools.

Parents at St Marys secondary campus are invited to encourage their teenagers to register with Mark Dellar during the first term, or email Dayman at giov_dayman@hotmail.com with details.
