A free-flowing and fun weekend of touch football showcased the region's talent, as the North West Tournament went off without a hitch.

Teams from Port Hedland and Djarindjin travelled to Broome to compete in the weekend event, which had action on Friday night and Saturday morning at BRAC.

In the open grand final, a try-for-try encounter between Broome and Port Hedland Cyclones enthralled onlookers, with the standard of play at the highest level.

After the scores were locked at half-time, the visitors edged the encounter by two tries to win the title.

Tema King and Tanah Tang Wei were named as the respective MVPs.

In the social division, Kiss My Pass and Broome Hash House Harriers made it through to the final, with the former too strong for their opposition.

The junior action was arguably the most eye-catching, with Port Hedland again triumphant, beating Broome in the final 9-7.

A beach tournament was held on Sunday as a social way of ending a big weekend for Broome touch football.

Broome Touch Association president Jules Bonner said the tournament was an overwhelming success.

"The format worked really well, providing an opportunity for everyone to get involved," she said.

"The skill levels on show were very high and the beach touch was a really good way to cap off a fantastic weekend."
