Jane Stoyanoski grew up idolising female motocross riders.

Every inch of her bedroom was plastered with their photos, in which she saw more than just a pretty face, but an inspirational athlete excelling in a sport dominated by men.

Stoyanoski's racing dream became a reality when she moved from Melbourne to Broome two years ago, and in her first motocross season, topped the ladies class.

Pushing herself to the limit, she also took a podium finish in Newman this season during round 3 of the North West Championships.

With only a few women racing locally, Stoyanoski lines up at the Broome Motocross track beside the men, which only makes her more determined to do well.

"Some of the guys will jump right over the top of you," she said.

"As a female in a male-dominated sport, I am happy to race against them - it toughens you up and makes you push yourself further," she said.

Moving to Broome two years ago, the sport offered her a familiar ground and eased her homesickness while giving her an outlet to meet local faces.

The Broome Motocross Club holds its two-day championships on September 6 and 7 and Stoyanoski encourages other people to get involved.

"If you are interested, come out and give motocross a chance … bring your deckchairs and come watch," she said.
