State coach trains talented group of juniors

Broome Advertiser

A group of 12 junior players from Broome Squash Club have been selected for a junior talent program with WA State junior coach Mike Cornish.

Cornish, who came up to Broome during this month’s North West Expo with his inflatable squash courts, went to the primary schools to recruit young players showing an interest and potential in squash.

He held training sessions with the Broome juniors while he was in town and selected a talent squad of 12 players.

The 12 juniors have been training weekly with coaches Glen Bridgeman and Vivienne Thorpe under the tutelage of juniors program co-ordinator Deb Poulter following coaching sessions with the State junior coach.

Broome Squash Club president Matt Reimer said the aim of the junior talent program was to prepare players for upcoming tournaments, including the Broome Squash Club Championships on May 25 to 27 and ultimately being selected for the WA State Junior Titles in Perth next year. Broome Squash Club has around 25 juniors.
