Round eight of the Broome Touch Football Association was fast and frenetic, with teams starting to hit their straps and look towards finals.

In the opening game of Division 1A, Wannabees recorded a comfortable 15-4 victory over recently promoted side Exploders.

The score was looking ominous at half-time at 10-1, but Exploders did well to contain their opponents in the second half.

Jack Pascoe of Wannabees was awarded the MVP award.

Rubber Ducks continued their strong form with a hard-fought 9-5 win over Touch Ups.

Nathan Dines and Jo Dick impressed in the encounter.

Blackouts are proving one of the teams to beat in the top flight, winning against Phoenix Flyers 11-3.

Jason Connelly was the standout player for the winning side, while Keryn Moase fought to the end for Flyers.

The closest encounter of the night came in the clash between Runaways and Outta Touch, with the latter recording a last-gasp 7-6 win.

In the split-round game, reigning champions Bullets proved too strong for Just Us, beating the social side 14-2.

In the social division, Running Amok are staking a claim for glory and beat Broome Hospital 7-4.

Try Hards put in a good performance in beating First National Rockets 11-5, with Glen Robertson the standout performer.

Finally, last season’s social champions PCYC suffered a 7-5 defeat to an unpredictable Chalkies side, meaning the social division is wide open this season.

Meanwhile, Broome is set to host a North West Championships tournament later in the year, with elite, social and junior teams from Port Hedland and Karratha set to attend.
