Teams reach season halfway mark
Round 7 of the Broome Netball Association calendar last weekend marked the season’s mid-way point as well as a gradual rise in skill across the 227-strong player base.
In the under-10s competition, Fast Breakers overpowered McKeno Magic, 11-5, while Diamonds were defeated by the Saints by the same scoreline.
In the 12s, Scorpions took the biggest win for the round, beating McKeno Magic, 33-4.
The Bullets would defeat The Flames by 10 points and the Diamonds would defeat the Saints by 12 points.
Cyclones remained strong this week, defeating Pearl Power 16-6, while Fast Breakers showed some merciless spirit in the 12s, defeating Seastars by 23 points.
In the 14s, Bullets Six pulled a massive win over their rival team, Bullets Seven, defeating them by 27 points, and The Squad narrowly defeated the NWC 12s team by four points.
BNA junior committee member Roslyn Butcher said the association would now look to evaluate the popularity of Saturday matches for 2017 and the effectiveness of its NetSetGO program with 77 players.
“The change to Saturday morning from a Monday evening has allowed us to fixture games across three timeslots and have room for the rise in registrations,” she said.
“With junior netball now played on a Saturday morning, there is a buzzing, family atmosphere at the BRAC.
“Brothers are coming across from the ovals after Auskick and footy to watch their siblings play.”
Meanwhile, five teams and more than 70 Broome Netball Association coaches, umpires and supporters are heading to Newman tomorrow for the North West Netball Championships.
The NetSetGO season and the modified rules 10-and-under competition are both expected on July 1 with the 10s finishing with a five team round-robin competition.
All other age groups will finish in August.
