Thousands turn out for rodeo fun
Derby Rodeo Club took the bull by the horns earlier this month, as thousands of spectators turned out for a weekend of stunning action.
The Derby Outback Rodeo attracted more than 200 participants from throughout the Kimberley to descend on the West Kimberley town, with competitors from the Northern Territory, Pilbara and Albany also taking part.
Held at the Derby Rodeo Club on August 7-9, a wide range of novelty and serious events entertained the masses.
Photographer Dan McIntosh captured some striking images of the stockmen and women in full flight.
Derby Rodeo Club committee member Shauny Burey said the event was a hit.
“It was a really successful weekend with the riders and stock putting on a real show,” she said.
“Sometimes the crowds can be quiet but on this occasion the crowd got really involved – there was a fantastic community feel to the event.”
Ms Burey confirmed that Derby Rodeo Club made around $45,000 from the three-day event, which would be reinvested into the grounds.
She said a new ablution block and kiosk were in the offing, which would hopefully he ready for next year’s rodeo.
The Derby Rodeo Club will now hold its Bullarama rodeo meeting on Friday, September 18.
This will be followed by the Picnic Races and black-tie ball on Saturday, September 19, with the racing at the Turf Club and the evening event at the Derby Civic Centre.
