Traditional owners’ company dismisses manager

The company owned by Broome’s traditional owners the Nyamba Buru Yawuru has dismissed its general manager for community programs, Tony Lee.

NBY chairman Patrick Dodson today made the announcement as part of changes to NBY management.

A statement from Mr Dodson said that following an internal review and an independent assessment of the review’s findings, Mr Lee’s position had been terminated “effective immediately”.

Mr Dodson commended the contribution that Mr Lee made to Yawuru’s development over the past 18 months and “trusts that he will continue to be a constructive influence in Yawuru’s growth in coming years”.

“The NBY board is strongly supportive of the management changes and is working closely with the Yawuru Native Title Holders Body Corporate to finalise and implement the new Yawuru strategic plan,” he said.

Mr Dodson said implementing the new strategic plan would usher in more organisational changes and investment decisions to be undertaken in collaboration with the Yawuru community and key stakeholders.
