Tries galore as round two of touch produces thrilling clashes
Round two of the six-week men and women’s touch football competitions threw up some thrilling games last Thursday, with tries galore at BRAC.
In the women’s competition, two of the favourites for glory came head-to-head in the form of WannaAmokUps and Panthers. The sides could not be separated, with the score ending in a tense 2-2 draw.
WannaAmokUps had a 2-1 lead at the half-time interval, but Panthers clawed their way back into the contest. Skye Jamieson and Shannon Burgess picked up the MVP awards.
Try Breakers made it two wins from two in their game against Explodeaways, prevailing 8-3. The game was close in the early exchanges, but the winning side showed superior handling to claim victory. Jasmine Tadros and Tegan Oliver were the MVP’s.
Finally, Mixed Up got their first win of the campaign, overcoming new side Mermaids 12-2.
The defeated side showed some good skills despite losing the game, with Carmel and Caroline Edanison voted respective MVP’s.
In the men’s tournament, Barbarians beat Bulls FC 11-6 in a high-scoring encounter. The winning side was made up of A Division players and proved too strong for the newcomers.
Lion Tamers are another side full of A Division competitors, and they impressed in a one-sided 13-1 victory over Try Hards. Leon Francis and Glen Lynch were awarded the MVP accolades.
Kulaz cemented their place as the team to beat in the men’s competition with a second victory, beating Broome Luggers 6-4 in a high-quality clash. Although the sides have a similar standard of ability, the fact that the Kulaz players play together regularly made the difference.
