The public walkway alongside the wharf in Broome will be closed while maintenance work on the jetty is carried out.

The Port of Broome said the causeway and beach access underneath will be temporarily closed from Monday until the Wharf Extension of Life project completes its works on the wharf neck and general pile works.

The Kimberley Port Authority has issued a statement that the popular fishing area is unsafe for recreational use due to construction, concrete cutting and demolition work close to the pathway and that it regrets the inconvenience to the community.

Port engineer Scott Baker said the completion date is scheduled for September pending additional works and he expects to reopen the area in whole or progressively after investigations are complete.
