Weekend was not very productive

The dragonflies are out in force, signalling the end of the wet season’s oppressive heat.

Many Broomies emerged from the protection of their air-conditioned dwellings to hit the water and Cable Beach over Easter and, strangely enough, the green waste section of the waste management facility was a hugely popular place to be last Sunday morning, as I found out.

I didn’t mind domestic duties around the house and garden, as I am still on a little bit of a high from my Easter weekend away up the coast.

The Buccaneer Archipelago is truly an amazing place, although I will admit the fishing was hard and not very productive for the long hours we dedicated to trying to catch a few. It wasn’t until the last day of the trip we finally found the big fingermark the North Kimberley is renowned for.

Closer to Broome, Yardigarra is apparently the hot spot for salmon, and not just bluenose. Giant threadfin salmon are plentiful, so it is well worth the trip across the bay.

Shore reefs and popular fishing areas that get hammered during the dry season will often fish brilliantly at this time of the year for snapper, coral trout and cod, after the weather-induced reprieve from fishing pressure. I urge anglers to fish responsibly and only take what you need for your immediate future.

Filling the freezer in the first trip out does not give you a good excuse to go fishing again soon.
