Workshops give clubs the tools to succeed

The Shire of Broome will host a series of workshops to assist, inspire and educate Broome's sporting club volunteers during February and March.

The Broome Club Development Workshop series will include four education sessions, beginning with a season opener next Monday at the Mangrove Hotel.

Club presidents and guests from related community groups will gather to officially launch the sporting season.

Key members of the Broome sporting community will outline plans for 2015, including the launch of the Broome Regional Talent Development Program.

A KidSport Junior Forum will follow on Monday, February 23, at the Shire function room, where key stakeholders will discuss initiatives to help junior programs, including the new KidSport agreement.

A funding workshop on March 9 will provide an opportunity for clubs to learn best practice for seeking grants and corporate sponsorship.

The series ends on March 30 with a major planning workshop.

The Top Club program is a partnership between the WA Sports Federation and eight key State sporting associations designed to develop strong club values as part of a year-long club plan.

Shire of Broome club development officer Mike Doyle said the season opener was a chance for the sporting community to network and discuss the year ahead.

"Once we get into the season, our volunteers have little time to discuss sport with their peers," he said.

"These workshops are designed to provide a variety of information for different members of sporting club committees and to generate opportunities for clubs to work together and learn from each other."

As well as the workshop series, the annual Broome Sport in Focus week from March 19-25 will again provide workshops, coaching courses and recreational opportunities aimed at highlighting and promoting the benefits of sports participation throughout the community.
