Youngsters engaged at launch of initiative
More than 100 youngsters turned out for the official launch of Broome youth support project Helping Young People Engage on May 18.
The event marked a new chapter for the successful Broome-based project, which is now operated by child rights agency Save the Children Australia.
Since its inception eight years ago, HYPE has been helping reduce crime and promote safety by responding to the overwhelming number of young people occupying public spaces of Broome at night.
The launch was held at the Broome Drop in Centre and was attended by 130 youths and 60 family members.
A range of activities were held during the afternoon including a climbing tower called the Pinnacle of Terror, basketball and a skateboard demonstration.
Participants also enjoyed music and refreshments.
