Young people from around Broome will have the chance to share their hopes for the shire at a forum being hosted as part of National Youth Week.

The Shire of Broome Youth Week Forum will run on Wednesday, April 10 from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at the Broome Civic

Centre.

The event includes guest speakers, workshops on topics including community and mental health, music, refreshments, prizes and giveaways.

Guest speaker Lachlan Cooke is founder of Indigenous Communities Education and Awareness, a youth-driven, non-profit organisation that encourages reconciliation by linking remote communities in the North West with high schools in Perth, and now Broome.

Shire president Graeme Campbell said the forum would tie into the Broome2040 project to help plan development across the next 30 years.

“It’s vital that Broome’s young people become engaged and have their say on the future of their town,” Cr Campbell said.

“This forum will be a fun and exciting way for young people to come together, be inspired and have the opportunity to share their hopes and dreams for Broome.

“There will be Broome Shire councillors in attendance, and the young people who come along can be assured that their voices will be heard.”

Anyone aged between 12 and 18 can attend and can register through their school or by calling Amy McKee on 9191 3411 or amy.mckee@broome.wa.gov.au.
