UGSCA 2025: Wandering star Lewis Parsons’ triple treat after claiming A-grade cricketer of the year honour

Star Wandering all-rounder Lewis Parsons has been recognised for an outstanding 2024-25 season, picking up three major awards including the prestigious Upper Great Southern Cricket Association A-grade cricketer of the year. Wandering went down in a gripping grand final to Williams on Saturday, but post-game Parsons was acknowledged as the best player this season. He topped the cricketer of the year standings with 913 points after making 173 runs at an average 28.83, claiming 31 wickets at an average of 7.35 and 12 catches in a brilliant season for the minor premiers. Those stats also won him the bowling aggregate and average trophies, Parsons effort of 31 wickets at 7.35 across 12 games enough to claim both awards. He bowled 78.5 overs in the regular season, averaging 2.58 wickets per game and his best performance was against Williams in round eight taking 7-30. Parsons thanked his teammates and the association for making it such a great season. Towns veteran Perrin Quartermaine won the A-grade batting aggregate award, making 520 runs this season. The A-grade batting average award went to Williams captain Rodney Ford, who made more than 450 runs at an average of 65 including 100 against Cuballing in round three. Towns’ Mitchell Ackland took home the Under-21 cricketer of the year on 451 points after taking 17 wickets to go with 36 runs and six catches. The UGSCA association cricketer of the year went to Lake Grace’s Kalan Joyce who made 60 runs and took seven wickets and two catches to finish on 220 points, followed closely behind by Ben McMillan (216 points) and Ben Sherry (208). Presented by UGSCA life member Lindsay Scott, Williams rising star Riley Ford was named man of the match in the A-grade grand final after making 49 not out and taking 1-11. UGSCA president David Head said Ford was a vital player in the field and credited his bowling to helping Williams get across the line.
