Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but it’s now also in the bag for students who have completed the first beauty course offered by Kimberley TAFE.

Kimberley TAFE portfolio manager Lee Anderson said it was already clear that introducing beauty studies had been a great step.

“We’re receiving fantastic feedback from all students who attended the course and this program has been very well received by industry and local high schools,” she said.

“A course of this kind has not been offered before and it provides positive employment outcomes for school leavers.”

Luisa Pearce, manager of Chahoya hair salon at Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, is one of 12 who took part in the first Certificate II in makeup artistry course.

“It’s been a really thorough course and it’s given me so many new ideas and a lot of motivation to take back to the salon,” she said.

“We have about 50 bridal parties a year come through the salon for hair and makeup, so what we’ve learnt here will be inspiration for creating a complete look for brides and their bridal parties.”

Offering studies in beauty therapy has been made possible by a partnership between Kimberley TAFE and the WA Academy, a company that is highly-regarded for training students to industry standards.

Courses available include Makeup Services Certificate II, Beauty Services Certificate III, Beauty Therapy Certificate IV, Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management and a Nail Technology Certificate II course, which will start on April 11.
