A 10-year-old Karratha boy was flown to Perth last night with a serious leg injury after a collision of two off-road motorcycles.

Karratha officer-in-charge Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Harrison said a father and his two sons were riding in scrublands near an algae farm at about 5.40pm when the incident happened.

He said the dad and his other son were riding closely together when a 28-year-old male passed them in the opposite direction.

The 28-year-old allegedly rode through the dust cloud the pair had kicked up and collided with the lagging 10-year-old rider.

The 28-year-old was taken to Nickol Bay Hospital with a laceration and a right arm fracture while the 10-year-old was flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Sen. Sgt Harrison said they were investigating the incident and whether charges would be made regarding local off-roading no-go zones.

“If people are unsure about where they can ride they should contact local government,” he said.
