Kimberley Athletics Club members will take their marks in Perth for their first State championship later this month.

Seven Broome athletes have been selected to compete in the WA All School Championships in a variety of events including the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, long jump and triple jump from October 31 to November 2.

Cheyne Cream, 17, will compete in open athletics and athletes India Strong, Mili Ledgerwood, Stella Banfield, Jacob Stone, Lewis Incerti and Riley Waters, all 12, will represent Broome in the junior competition.

Kimberley Athletics Club president Sam Newton said the junior athletes had been training hard for months in the lead-up to the competition, dramatically improving their running style and technique.

Forming the club earlier this year, Newton said it meant a lot to have athletes represent Broome and would provide invaluable experience to their young members.

"To send a team down to Perth is quite an achievement for us. It is important our young athletes have goals to aspire to and so far, they have been very dedicated," he said.

"For the junior athletes, this will be their first major competition after interschool carnivals, and it is all about taking it to the next level and getting experience competing against other athletes."

Newton said the club hoped to eventually create an athletics hub to encompass the entire region.
