The date for this year's Broome marathon has been set, with Cable Beach to be awash with runners, joggers and walkers this July.

The event is in its second year and has been planned for Sunday, July 20, with three distance challenges to take place.

The LJ Hooker Broome marathon takes in 42.2km of golden sands, while the Life and Soul Run is 19.6km.

The 11.3km Matso's Dash also returns, with the marathon starting at 6am and the two shorter distances starting at 7.30am.

Organiser Glenn Taylor said the events emphasised participation, fun and enjoyment.

"Planning has been underway since the moment the last competitor crossed the line in the inaugural event last year," he said.

"There has been fantastic interest from new and experienced runners who are keen to be part."

Taylor also said there were a number of changes this time round, including the start and finish area.

"We anticipate a festive atmosphere where families can come and cheer and have fun on the beach," he said.

"Presentation for all distances will be combined in a post-event celebration not to be missed".

The run time is designed to ensure low tide and hard-packed sand for the course.

Registrations for the event are now open and full event details can be found at www.broomemarathon.com.au.
