Headquarters in lockup

The new Broome Volunteer Sea Rescue Group headquarters will go into lock-up next month and is on track for its June 30 completion date.

BVSRG Commander Brett Winfield said despite delays caused by the wet season, construction had remained on schedule.

“Lock-up is a significant milestone for us,” he said.

“From this point, the inside of the building can be completed and fit-out commences so we are certainly on track to go into handover before the end of the financial year.”

Located in an optimal position at Entrance Point, the new headquarters will improve the group’s response time to call-outs and overall operations.

Cdr Winfield said the new headquarters would be tremendously beneficial for the BVSRG.

“Right now we’re just working out of an industrial shed with simple storage facilities,” he said.

“We don’t have the capacity in our current premises to actually conduct a search and rescue operation from this location.

“Our new headquarters will allow us to run these operations on site and provide proper facilities and comfort for our volunteers.”

Cdr Winfield said the facility wouldn’t be possible without funding by Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price and the ongoing support of other stakeholders through the construction phase.
