Misfits still in mix for finals

Carly LadenBroome Advertiser

The Misfits shook off their last-gasp draw to hold off a determined Outlaws side to remain in contention for the finals.

In the second last round of competition before the finals series, the sixth-placed Misfits looked to be the underdogs heading into their match against the fourth-placed Outlaws on March 1.

But the Misfits did not miss a beat in the first quarter, keeping up with the Outlaws’ quick pace and taking the lead at quarter-time.

As the teams continued to find their rhythm, the Misfits began to take control of the match, with great driving by Sam Mastrolembo and plenty of communication and leadership from Grant Astles and Nick Linton. The Misfits took the Outlaws by surprise when they continued to extend their lead throughout the match, leading by 15 points at three-quarter time.

The Outlaws were determined to close the gap and put the pressure on the Misfits late in the third quarter and during the final quarter.

However, the Misfits were just as, if not more, determined to get another win on the board and managed to overrun the Outlaws by 10 points.

Elsewhere, the Orl Blacks and Greenbacks continued to prove why they are the top two teams with divisive victories.

The Orl Blacks defeated the Broome Development squad by 26 points, while the Greenbacks defeated the Clippers by 39.

Meanwhile, despite many fouls marring the match, the Gantheaume Pointers notched another win on their belt, leaving the B-Town Ballers with one more chance to win themselves into final contention.
