The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is excited to recognise the community members making a positive impact on Australia Day.

Several residents will be acknowledged tomorrow for their contribution to the Derby/West Kimberley community at the Active Citizen awards.

Shire chief executive Stephen Gash said he was excited to celebrate some outstanding community members.

“Australia Day events in Derby are always well attended and foster fantastic community spirit,” he said.

“The Shire is most proud of the number of people from our community that have been nominated by fellow members of the community for Active Citizenship awards.

“We are looking forward to publicly recognising these hard-working volunteers that contribute so much to the town and the fantastic community spirit that is the backbone of Derby.”

Derby’s Sportsman Club will once again host community members for an Australia Day community breakfast.

The Shire will also host the traditional stubby holder throwing competition and an Australia Day Derby quiz, the winner of which will receive a hamper of former Shire president Elisa Archer’s “famous” sausage rolls. One Derby resident will have even more reason to celebrate Australia as they will be featured in the citizenship ceremony taking place on the day.
