Roll a six, move to Broome

Robert DoughertyBroome Advertiser

Broome has rounded the board, passed GO and collected $200 as it makes an appearance on the new Australian Monopoly board for 2017.

Firmly wedged between Esperance and Margaret River, the West Kimberley town is stationed on the board’s second side after the iconic Electric Company square.

Broome is available for purchase at the bargain price of 140 monopoly money, twice the value of Darwin and Alice Springs.

The town scored the space after it was voted in by over 35,000 monopoly fans as one of 40 locations during November last year, during the campaign Sydney was voted to replace the coveted Mayfair.

Hasbro Australia brand manager for Monopoly, Tiffany Vibert said the results left many shocked with Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Exmouth overlooked entirely.

“Achieving a spot on the new Australian board is a great achievement and it’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm for the game from Australians around the country,” she said.

The board which hits stores today also contains revised playing pieces such as a barbecue, kangaroo, kookaburra, cricket bat, meat pie and a surfer.

Chance and Community Chest cards have been altered to relate to State-of-Origin, the Melbourne Cup, bushfires, cricket, lamingtons and peak-hour traffic.
