Peter Laurance is the new WA appointment on Tourism Australia Board

Federal Tourism Minister Don Farrell has appointed Perth businessman and entrepreneur Peter Laurance to the Tourism Australia Board of directors. Mr Laurance AO is a former owner and developer of major tourism attractions on the Gold Coast, such as Warner Brothers Movie World, Sea World, and Daydream Island in the Whitsundays and was chairman of the Queensland Tourist and Travel Corporation. He was inducted as an Officer in the Order of Australia in 1991 for his services to tourism and to disadvantaged youth. “We considered it important for Western Australia to have another strong and experienced voice on the Board of Tourism Australia, and we are delighted that Mr Laurance has accepted our invitation,” Mr Farrell said. “Mr Laurance is one of the most experienced people in the country in the tourism industry and will make a significant contribution to Tourism Australia. “He will be a tremendous asset on the board as we strive to grow an industry which is the lifeblood of our regions — supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs, small businesses, and hospitality across the country.” Mr Laurance said WA would play a significant role as the western gateway to Australia and welcomed his appointment to Tourism Australia. “I’m looking forward to being able to join other experienced tourism professionals on the board of Tourism Australia to enhance this nation’s role as an important holiday and convention destination, and to expand our connectivity to the rest of the world through an expanded airline network,” Mr Laurance said. “Western Australia will play a significant part as the western gateway to Australia.”
